An enormous smallmouth bass caught in Lake Erie in Canadian waters close to Pelee Island by an Ohio angler may be a brand new Ontario file.

Gregg Gallagher of Fremont netted the ten.15-pound, 23.75-inch bass utilizing drop-shot and eight-pound check on Thursday, Nov. 3, in response to workers with the Ontario Document Fish Registry, which is operated by the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH).

The species, size, and 19.275-inch girth have been vetted by Ohio Division of Pure Assets (ODNR) biologists, who’re holding the fish pending affirmation.

“That is actually the most important smallmouth bass that I’ve ever seen,” ODNR Lake Erie Fisheries Program Administrator Travis J. Hartman acknowledged.

If confirmed, the smallmouth would beat the present file of 9.84 kilos from Birchbark Lake, close to Kinmount, northwest of Peterborough. It might even be the one licensed 10-pound bass caught in any of the Nice Lakes.
